I'm fortunate to not have crossed that bridge yet. My mother, sister, and I are thick as thieves so we've got each other covered. I hear what you're saying about creditors.

Eva,
I feel the same way. Even though both my parents have since move on to the great beyond, I really didn't mind changing pops diapers as much as I thought.
Problem is, the law is about Paying their Old (not medical) Bills, not taking care of them. It's not difficult to pay THEM back, but Paying their Creditors is a horse of a different color.
At least in my book.

This topic may have incubated for six months, but I've revived it.

Law or not, I do not feel burdened in the least if I have to pick up the slack for my one living parent. No matter what I could do for her, I could never repay her for all of the love, encouragement, and support I still receive on a daily basis.

I wrote a post over on the BB Blog about how an old English law from 1601 could affect any of us today.
In essence, we may be or could be held responsible for our parents debts when they are unable to fend for themselves.
Check it out...
