A month before (around July 20, 1969) I saw Jimi Hendrix appear on the Tonight Show as Flip Wilson sat in for Johnny. Don't really recall what he played but he brought the house down. This was a precursor of his Woodstock appearance. In retrospect, the sound system for the bands was pretty weak in light of today' technology. But there was lots of heart and passion.
