I just signed up as a member of this site. I wanted to introduce myself and offer some things I've found true that can solve some common problems Boomers share. I'm sure I can learn a lot from you all, also.

My major interest is health, especially how to stay healthy without diets, drugs, and medical intervention. I just turned 63 and I've managed to stay at roughly the weight I was in college. I'm not on any prescriptions and I feel great.

I have mostly been self-employed, but I also spent some time consulting for the U.S. Department of Commerce and the local Chamber of Commerce, looking for ways to re-employ an isolated, beautiful community after their major employer left town. That taught me some interesting lessons about finding some new employment for the general population.

Lately, I've been developing a new career on the Internet as a writer, trying to contribute some insights I gained that I haven't seen elsewhere. This is an exciting time to be alive, so I'm looking forward to hear what others in this forum have learned.

After trying diets for years a friend of mine ask me to jog with her and much to my delight the weight started disappearing. Those extra calories I was burning almost everyday out jogging was paying off. Now I am 65, one of the first baby boomers, and I still jog everyday weather permitting, and if it doesn't permit I have a treadmill. For anyone who would like to try it, here is the best jogging site for advice on the internet. I you are not in good condition start off with a brisk walk and work your way up over a few weeks period.

Everyone know they show eat a healthy diet and exercise to keep the body and mind in good condition. But let's face it, some of us just don't do it. In fact some individuals get so obese it starts causing them some life threatening medical problems. If this is the case, then it may be time to talk to a doctor about a gastric bypass surgery operation. However, there are mental and physical requirements that must be met. For anyone interested here is an excellent article on the subject.
Welcome to the forum. There are lots of members but unfortunately, no where as active as we'd like. I probably haven't promoted it as much as I should.
You can invite all your friends and we can see how active we can make it.

For twenty years Red Skelton blessed the airwaves with his family friendly humor. His talents not only included comedy but the ability to endear to his audience.

The characters he created will live in the hearts of his fans forever. One of Red's most loved characters was the hobo who lived in the city dump, Freddie the Freeloader.

Freddie was a kind hearted gentle soul who lived life to the fullest. He may have used a newspaper for a blanket and a bathtub for a bed, but Freddie knew how to make the most out of nothing.

Re-live those days and take a break from the afternoon heat every Monday and Tuesday at 2 pm inside the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel located at 160 E Flamingo Road (corner of Koval and Flamingo)

The new iPad coming out Saturday and please read more info so you can help me!?
I am seriously considering an iPad, I would use it as my computer. I researched some and saw that there will be a word program available and a wireless keyboard too. Regarding my camera there will be something that you can connect your camera straight up to the actual iPad. Those are resolved problems regarding the iPad being different. Other than the CD/DVD drive is there anything else it will not do that a computer does???

The line up of Las Vegas shows includes entertainment from all over the world. Many of the shows are tributes to famous artists such as Michael Jackson, The Jersey Boys and Elvis. One man who stands alone does a tribute to a favorite comedian amongst the baby boomers; his tribute is to Red Skelton.

People traveling to Las Vegas find that the list of shows is practically endless. Regardless of your taste in entertainment, Vegas has what you are looking for. When people think of Las Vegas Shows the usual showgirl shows come to mind, like Donn Arden’s Jubilee at Bally’s and X Burlesque at the Flamingo.

Most of the entertainment in Las Vegas starts after 6pm and goes on through out the night. Shows in Las Vegas can be found in almost all of the Las Vegas Hotels located along the famous Las Vegas Strip. The Las Vegas Strip isn’t the only area where entertainment can be found.

So what are the best shows in Las Vegas? That depends on your taste in Las Vegas Shows. Some shows in Las Vegas claim to be the best because of their time slot. George Wallace claims to have the best 10pm show in Las Vegas.

There is no doubt that many of the Las Vegas Shows are not suitable for children. So when it comes to family entertainment in Las Vegas, the list of shows tend to dwindle. Which Las Vegas shows are suitable for children? That depends upon your discretion. Some of the more family friendly shows include Mac King in Harrah’s, Nathon Burton in the Flamingo and Superstars of Magic performing in Gameworks on Las Vegas Blvd near MGM Grand.

One Las Vegas Comedy show has a G rating. This Las Vegas comedy show is suitable for the entire family. The Las Vegas comedy show is also a tribute to a legendary comedian, and that comedian is Red Skelton. This tribute to Red Skelton is entering its third year in Las Vegas and has quickly become the show to see when in Las Vegas.

This Las Vegas Show is now performing Monday and Tuesday at 2pm in The Westin Casuarina Las Vegas Hotel Casino and Spa. When in Las Vegas make sure to set aside time for this spectacular tribute to Red Skelton. Need more info?

I find that many in favor of the leaks don't understand the critical role of diplomacy in international relations.

All leaders in all countries say things to their own people and then different things on the world stage.

Diplomacy and progress in relations REQUIRES that the ability for leaders to speak confidentially and without without fear that their words will be plastered all over the world news.

Peace is a delicate process and just like most people won't tell their child every shortcoming they imagine the child has, they may consult a psychologist, teacher or friend (IN CONFIDENCE) to help learn more about how to help the child improve.

Most would agree that those IN CONFIDENCE conversations should never be shared with the child, the child's friend or the national news.

The same applies here...

And to add insult to injury... the state Department is a mulit-billion dollar operation (taxpayer funded) and it takes years to cultivate relationships and gain trust. The primary method of gaining trust is to have frank and honest discussion with the confidence that those won't be made public.

In violating that trust, Assange has just cost the US billions in lost trust.

No world leader, government, business or otherwise will be eager to disclose sensitive information that could help the US better understand its friends and foes (and turn foes into friends) for some time to come.

Frankly, I have very strong feelings (none of which I can say in polite company) about a site that will leak sensitive material no matter the cost in life, how it affects governments or individuals and financial institutions, all in the name of freedom of speech by a self-described anarchist.
But, I want to hear your thoughts and how it may be affecting you, your business and your finances or in any other way, good or bad.

Hey Bob,
I can relate to the reunion story, been there too.
My biggest revelation was looking in the mirror while getting dressed for that reunion... Who was that guy looking back at me in the mirror? My Father?

Just a quick into of myself. I'm Peg, and live in Oklahoma, and am very happy to have found an ACTIVE forum of Boomers. I have been writing (for what ever reason ? ! ? ) a lot of articles and notes on concerns of Baby Boomers lately. I think a lot of the issues have shifted and changed with the political and social climate as it is, and am really enjoying reading all of your comments so far. Look forward to making some Boomer friends on this site. (By the way, in Oklahoma when you say "Boomer", someone will always answer, "Sooners")

Hi there, fellow baby boomers!

Just joined this site within the past hour - I found it by accident actually while I was looking for something else.

My name is Bob McDowell, I'm 60 years young and I live in Discovery Bay, California with my 2nd wife of 23 years. I have 3 grown kids (2 sons & 1 daughter) and 11 grandkids (6 girls and 5 boys)

Like many of you have stated in your posts, I truly don't know where the time has gone either! I remember going to my 40th high school reunion in 2008, and what caught me off-guard initially was that there were all of these OLD people there! LOL!

I have NO plans of retiring either. I've been self-employed for many years as a psychotherapist in private practice specializing in treating adolescent & adult survivors of childhood sexual trauma and abuse, as well as other PTSD-related issues.

After closing my private practice in 2003, I became certified as a family and divorce mediator, and have been doing that ever since. It can be challenging at times, but I absolutely LOVE what I do, and I plan to do it till I drop dead, or until I lose my mind completely....whichever comes first I suppose! My journey has been been rewarding both on a personal and professional level, and I just can't imagine doing anything else with my life other than helping others!

I guess that's about all I have for right now. I'm happy to be here and I look forward to future exchanges.
